The colours in Goa require no mind-altering drugs to leave you in a spin! One of my neighbours paused and watched me with incredulity as I took several photographs of his line of washing…’it’s the colours’, I explained, ‘ah, the colours’ he smiled and commented back, obviously thinking ‘crazy lady!
I find that with each colourfully kaleidoscopic image I take I am looked upon with bemusement by the shop owner or creator. ‘It’s the colours, they are amazing’ has become my standard comment as I wander the streets of Goa recording what I see in a daze.
But in addition to the colours the textiles are embellished to a level I have never before seen. At every turn I find dazzling texture, colour and pattern, truly unforgettable and inspirational. Many, many hours of work go into each hand crafted piece and I wish I could purchase every item, but with a limit of 15kg on internal flights it is just not possible.
Hence today’s discussions with my husband….I think I feel a buying trip coming on! I need to return with a full wallet and an empty suitcase, as soon as possible! I’ve already done the maths….Yep…it calculates out perfectly…well, in my mind, if not in my husband’s!
